| Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A. updates its GIS class system. The migration of PlaNet system to SONET version will be carried out by WINUEL from Sygnity Group. The project will be carried out by the end of March 2008.
SONET is a technological and functional extension of PlaNet application. The PlaNet system was implemented in 2002-2003 by ComputerLand SA (at present Sygnity SA). Migration of this system to SONET version will enable Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A. update of system, tool and application software to state-of-the-art technologies. Due to considerable growth in processed data, more important features of the new system are faster analyses as well as optimised ergonomics. The author of both software versions (SONET i PlaNet) is a team of architects, analysts and programmers from Hanslik Laboratorium Oprogramowania (Hanslik Software Laboratory), who at present work in WINUEL SA (in 2006 the products and employees of Hanslik were incorporated into WINUEL structures).
The basic SONET application is a GIS type tool of general purpose. It can be used in a broad scope, using any GIS data sources (file, database, bitmap, WMS). SONET is designed for supporting any business processes related to network assets mapped in GIS technology, including carrying out works connected to network passporting, network and facilities registering and executing network tasks. The basic part of the solution is SONET software and a set of projects, designed for the software, each of which is responsible for specific functional areas supporting handling asset management processes, power network usage as well as supporting integration with other IT systems (eg. SAP, SCADA).
The feature which distinguishes SONET among other GIS type tools is the ability of its configuration through a CASE type tool instead of programming. Applications created within SONET solution may be generated in a linked JARC application server as web browser solutions (WWW). SONET applications may be also run through terminal services on a remote computer – it is a preferable way when the network does not guarantee the required bandwidth.
